Why does my 1 TB drive show less space?
Manufacturers and macOS count in decimal: 1 GB is 1,000,000,000 bytes. Windows counts in binary but still labels it “GB”: its “GB” is really a GiB, 1,073,741,824 bytes. The same drive therefore looks about 7% smaller on Windows.
